Maryland Rush Montgomery

Rocket Program

The purpose of the MRM Rocket Program is to give Co-Ed U8 players (Ages 6-7) access to coaches who excel at developing youth soccer players.

Our goal is to provide our youngest players with outrageously fun, enriching soccer experiences that act as a launchpad for growth and interest in the game of soccer.

At this early stage of development, we focus on developing a passion for the game, respecting the people in our environment, and developing competent dribbling skills.

Our general outcomes for the Rocket Program are:

  • Players who are competent and relish a 1v1 duel;
  • Players who are kind to coaches and teammates, while being fiercely competitive during games;
  • Players who build strong friendships on their soccer team; and
  • Players who can run their own games without an adult leading them.

Training & Format

The Fall season runs for 10 weeks, with one training session per week. To allow families from around Montgomery County to participate, training sessions are held in the Rockville area.

At this age, league games add unwanted pressure that we do not consider productive, yet youth do love to show off their skills for friends and family. In order to provide game-like experiences for the players, our program will host ‘game-days’ where the kids will compete against other local clubs in small scrimmage-like games. We plan to host game-days bi-weekly.

Coaches & Communication

MRM Academy coaches are dedicated, licensed professionals with years of experience working with and developing youth players by providing high quality training.

The Fall 2022 Rockets Program will be coached by Chris Vaccaro & Vince Carter.

Our MRM coaches understand that communication is the most important tool for every coach. Coaches will communicate with parents on a regular basis. Parents are encouraged to contact their coach with any questions; coaches will keep these lines of communication open.

Trust and communication between coaches and parents is a major factor in the development of a successful soccer player and program.

Parents' Roles

  • Sign up for volunteer positions
  • Bring players to practices and games on time, ensuring they have the maximum amount of time to play.
  • Stay up to date on the program’s calendar.
  • Encourage and support all players, regardless of skill level.
  • Stress the importance of respect for coaches, and teammates through discussions with your child.
  • Serve as role models, seeing the “big picture” and supporting all players.
  • Avoid putting pressure on children about their performance.

The greatest gift you can give your children throughout their involvement in any sport is support. When asked what they would most appreciate from their parents as support, most children choose positive encouragement and acceptance of their choices and abilities.
